Michelle Obama Analysis Free Essays
October 9, 2012 Written Analysis 1) Speech Goal: What is the goal of the speech? What does the speaker want the listener to do? * The overall goal for Michelle Obamaââ¬â¢s speech s to inform the audience that her husband, President Barack Obama is for the people. She wants them to realize that he can relate to every class in America. He has struggled with the same problems that America is facing today at some point in his life. We will write a custom essay sample on Michelle Obama Analysis or any similar topic only for you Order Now The speaker wants the audience to appreciate who they have as a leader and to be confident enough to re-elect him again. 2) Speech Organization: What is the overall organizational structure of the message? Remember Chapters 11, 12, 13, 14) * The overall message was in a motivated sequence with the 5 steps, attention, need, satisfaction, visualization, and action. 3) Speakers Role: What kind of relationship has the speaker established with the audience? Does he or she speak from a position of power? As an equal? How does this role established by the speaker influence the speechââ¬â¢s effectiveness * Mrs. Obama creates a more equal relationship rather than being superior to the audience even though she has a great deal of power on her back. She speaks to them from an eye to eye perspective. The way the speaker shows the audience how much they can actually relate, the audience is prone to find favor in their similar situations and is more likely to gain a liking for him. This speech is very effective because the audience can see that President Obama and his wife feels what they feel and they know whatââ¬â¢s it like to have issues. They didnââ¬â¢t grow up rich, without experiencing the downfalls of society; they had to climb that ladder of success as normal Americanââ¬â¢s. ) Speakerââ¬â¢s Tone: What is the overall tone, or ââ¬Å"feel,â⬠of the message? How does the speaker use supporting material and delivery clues to establish an overall tone of speech? * This speech has a tone of hope and equality. After hearing this speech you canââ¬â¢t help but feel hopeful that things will get better. The first lady helps you see that itââ¬â¢s possible to make it. There is hope for every family that wants to s end their children to college just like there is hope for every family who has soldiers serving their country. Not only that, but there is a sense of equality in the speakers tone to help the audience relate to a much further extent. 5) Speakers Techniques: What does the speaker do to establish credibility? Does the speaker use logical arguments, tell effective and interesting stories, use emotional appeals, and use interesting and precise language? * The speaker creates credibility by basically saying sheââ¬â¢s been in their footsteps, especially with her father having a disability and with him being a father and sending his children to college even if he did have to take out loans when he fell short. The speaker does use logical arguments, tells effective and interesting stories, use emotional appeals, and use interesting and precise language. The speaker shows her sincerity in everything she says which shows the audience how much passion is behind every word and scenario. 6) Audience: Who is the intended audience? How effectively and appropriate does the speaker connect to the interest, needs and background of the audience? How does the speaker make the connection with the audience? The intended audience is more of the middle class, she states a lot of issues that middle class people go through, even as growing up as a middle class child, and she went through those same issues. She connects with them by being able to say, ââ¬Å"Yes Iââ¬â¢ve been there, and Yes Iââ¬â¢ve made it through. â⬠7) What was your favorite aspect of the speech, and why? * My favorite aspect is how she gives the audience that reassurance that even though times may be hard right now that it is not the end. You have to believe in America and hope for the best. No country or President is perfect. We have to have our Presidentââ¬â¢s back and show we that we have faith in him. 8) Why is this activity relevant? What do you learn from watching speeches? * This activity was very relevant because as young adults, we need to be more in tuned with whatââ¬â¢s going on in our society. We see how the speaker comes across to America by noticing several points that weââ¬â¢ve discussed in class. We learn what to do to improve as speakers ourselves. Individual Reflective Essay In Management â⬠Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Individual Reflective Essay In Management? Answer: Introducation Self-awareness is one of the most common and significant topic when dealing with emotional intelligence. People find it challenging to clearly explain who they are, or who they perceive themselves to be. I am not an exception either. The way we perceive or identify ourselves might differ slightly or greatly from how other people perceive us hence marketing the aspect of self-awareness to become a dilemma. At that moment we tend to become startled and fail to know who we really are. The Johari Window model comes in handy at such moments as it is a great model for self-awareness, personal development, group development and understanding relationship (Businessballs, 2003). Under the open area of Johari quadrant, I have the ability to understand what others are thinking an I can behave appropriately and sophisticated (Iq-Test, 2017). I am always cheerful and optimistic in life even when I seem to fall into the abyss of despair and I can always get back to my feet and move on quickly. (Iq-Test, 2017) . One of my colleagues identified that about me from the survey they filled, which went hand in hand with what the results that I had also obtained. I also have high logical and mathematical intelligence which makes me fast in solving mathematical problems and providing quick and efficient solutions to problems at hand. In concomitant to that, I have high linguistic, musical, interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence. When combined, the intelligence types make me competent and a good leader and manager, who deeply understands the people under my leadership. However, it turns out that there are some traits, character, and behavior that I possess but I am not aware. This is perfectly covered in the blind area quadrant which highlights the things that are unknown to a person but known to the others (Self Awareness, 2013). The other EQ test completed by my second colleague indicated that I am pretty cold and rarely concerned with what others think. This trait helps me to make decisions more assertive but sometimes it can upset people even though I dont mean to hurt them (Iq-Test, 2017). This is something I had no glimpse of but my colleague confidently pinpointed it as portrayed in the EQ test results. The hidden area of the quadrant covers what is known to the person that is unknown to others. By comparing all the results obtained after completing the survey, it was crystal clear that my finanacial ability was hidden. Although I am aware of my musical skills and passion for music, this was not the case with my colleagues. It turns out I had hidden this bit of my personality to myself and it was therefore unknown to them. My bodily kinesthetic intelligence falls in the unknown quarter of the quadrant. This quarter covers the area of unknown activity. When it comes to sports, games, dancing and any activity that involves vigorous movements, it is unclear of where my strengths and abilities lie hence making it unknown both to self and others. Having undertaken the intelligence survey, I have been able to identify my areas of weakness as well as my strengths. I am empathetic: this trait plays a major role when it comes to helping others out whenever they need my help. For instance, in school, when someone needs my help with doing any complex sum or understanding a difficult concept, I gladly help. It helps me make a good leader because I understand the people that I lead. Being cheerful and optimistic are the major pillars of my strengths. No matter how dark and dump it seems at the moment, I always assure myself that therell be light and warmth at the end of the tunnel. I always want to try everything over and over again even though I keep failing. I always tell myself that I cannot fail forever. Education and learning was always tough when I first joined school. I could fail in a number of subjects but I never gave up. I felt the urge inside me to change the course of the river. It was a very hard and pressing moment. One step at a time became my slogan and so I decided to begin from the known to the unknown. I believed this would give me the strength as it would assure me that at least I have something that I know, somewhere I can start. I began working on English and literature. As I worked, I began realizing my weaknesses day by day as I continued to learn. It was really tough and at one moment I felt like throwing in the towel but I knew that was never going to be an option. Believe you me, at the end of it all, my optimism made me a victor. Being optimistic made me develop strong linguistic, logical-mathematical and spatial-visual intelligence which are also part of my strengths when it comes to competence at school and in doing any kind of work. It is evident that I have a weakness with my bodily kinesthetic intelligence. I lack enough control over my physical agility and manual dexterity. This is a clear indication that I have not yet stricken an equal balance between leisure and time for work. In as much as I am focused and optimistic with, life, I need to take a break and relax by taking part in activities that engage the body and mind physically. I would like to develop some competencies in order to function well as a global citizen. The most significant one is: improving my interpersonal intelligence to be at the utmost level. This will help me to perceive other peoples feelings, be able to relate with them, interpret their behavior and communication, and understand the relationship between them and their situations. For instance, if I am working in an organization that has people from diverse cultures and I am their leader, it would be pretty hard for me to lead them if I do not understand how they operate. If I do not understand their behavior and communication, and the relationship between them in different situations, then I might turn out to be a bad leader. I may not be able to unite all the people from diverse cultures, hence making the organization recede in growth and in making of profits. If I master the art of interpersonal relationship/communication, then I will definitely be able to unite all the people regardless of their cultural backgrounds. The feedback from the surveys have been a great eye opener to me. I have discovered some of my strengths that I was not aware of and at the same time the weaknesses that I have. I will ensure that I work on my weaknesses, enhance my strengths, and live to see my competencies actualize. For instance, having known that I am pretty cold and rarely concerned about others, I will work my hard to change that aspect of my life. Changing that aspect will enable me to perfectly fit like a jigsaw puzzle in a potential career in a culturally diverse organization Management. References Businessballs, 2003. Johari Window. Walt Disneys Tangled Essay Example For Students
Walt Disneys Tangled Essay Everything has a hidden meaning, whether it is books, movies, or cartoons. Yet the audiences only starts to recognize it while they sit back, and reflect on them. Disney studio movies are expressing their thoughts about culture, love, and reality to the audience, by creating their unique characters and presenting them. Taking in the media, people begin to internalize the themes presented. Each character has their own unique way to present their disguised ideas about culture and morals. Not all audiences have the same impression of one character. Rapunzel, the main character in, Tangled, delivers her culture in beauty. Rapunzel is introduced to the reality of adults, is confronted with its advantages. If we take a closer look at Rapunzel, her dress is her everyday attire. As we see in the movie, in the scenes in which she was born and placed in her crib, she was already wearing the dress. She continued to wear the dress consistently, even when she was at home, at her palace, and her wedding ceremony. We will write a custom essay on Walt Disneys Tangled specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now It is usual to see Rapunzel wearing dresses at all the time. In comparison to modern fashion, dresses are still quite popular among girls. Such trends from the past, have brought this culture and tradition of the way girls should dress, up to the next generation. Subsequently, another significant theme of beauty that she represents, is her shiny blonde golden hair. She has 70 foot long hair, which impresses most of the audience, especially younger audiences. Younger audiences also want to grow their hair long after watching the movie. The way she introduces her long hair, does not mean that girls must have a 70 foot long hair, instilled with magic, its just to recognize it. If she had normal length hair, just like any other Disney princess, then we would not acknowledge her hair. Although each woman has different length of her hair, having her hair to grow long is a signature of a beautiful woman. This beauty ideal hasnt changed in modern culture either. Another hidden message in her character, is stepping out of your comfort zone as we grow up. A scene in the beginning of the movie, Rapunzel wanted to leave the tower, to see the light that was always appearing on her birthday. With her curious mind, she asked Mother Gothel to let her go, but her mother did not want her to leave the tower. Instead, she filled Rapunzelââ¬â¢s mind with the false perception of how ugly and cruel the outside world is. Equivalent to real life, I have always lived and surrounded myself with people I knew, and grew up in the same neighborhood my whole life. I used to live in my own confined world, with my family and friends. However, everything started to change when I entered college. I needed to accept the challenges of getting out of my own little world in high school, and into the brand new world in college. Breaking out of your comfort zone can apply to anyone. More than just about entering college, and moving to the new neighborhood, this concept can also be applied to other actions such as changing jobs, and doing something else that we have never done before. Taking a closer look at the scene where Rapunzel was still inside the tower, she questioned about when will her life begin. After she reached the ground outside of the tower, she was overjoyed and expressed herself with the song while running around, and she said that is when her life began. As we can see beyond on these two scenes, her life started to change little by little such as found the truth about her identity, and her pure love on Eugene. New life events, help change your ways of thinking, and help you form new perceptions of the world. Everything has its own purpose, and meaning, which is why the maker creates them. .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 , .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .postImageUrl , .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 , .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386:hover , .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386:visited , .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386:active { border:0!important; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386:active , .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386 .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2713edd773768612c8e6cb0ef7b75386:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Three Approaches to Psychotherapy III EssayWith the intention of making up such affairs, the author wants to present his or her thoughts to the audience. Cook or Starve to Death Professor Ramos Blog
Cook or Starve to Death Growing up in the Philippines, I would say that we were fortunate to have an all-around helper who cleaned the house; washed and ironed our clothes; did the grocery shopping and prepared our meal; and took care of us. Though tita Mercy was our helper, we always treated her like a family. (By the way, ââ¬Å"titaâ⬠is aunt in English; we do not only use tita to address our relatives but to refer to older women who are not related to us and old enough to be our aunts to show our respect). When both of our parents went to work abroad or overseas, my siblings and I were left under tita Mercyââ¬â¢s care and guidance. Our father has his renovating business in Canada, while our mother worked as a registered nurse in one of the hospitals in Saudi Arabia. I was only six years old, our older brother was seven and the twins, a boy and a girl, were only four years old at that time. Tita Mercy was a strict disciplinarian but she had a heart of gold. She reared us like her own children and taught us basic household chores such as how to mop the floor and wash the dishes. Tita Mercy called me one day and told me that she was going to teach me how to cook. I was twelve years old then. I remembered protesting and asking her with a long face, ââ¬Å"Do I really have to?â⬠And she replied sternly, ââ¬Å"Yes, because you are a GIRL (Oh, how I hate that word!) and it is important that you learn how to cook especially when you have a family of your own. Besides, if you do not know how to cook, you will starve to death.â⬠ââ¬Å"Starve to death? Isnââ¬â¢t that a bit exaggerated?â⬠I thought sarcastically with a raised eyebrow. I did not even dare to say that aloud for fear that I would be castigated for answering back. My family and I love to eat and we drool over good food. However, I detested preparing and cooking a dish like how I despised and dreaded English when I was in grade school and high school because it seemed so laborious and as complicated as learning the grammar and sentence structures. I would rather be outside playing Chine se garter (two individuals will hold the garter on both ends while the other players will try to across over it without being tripped. It will start at ankle level and goes up until over the head), hopscotch or hide-and-seek with my friends than to understand the art of cooking. Anyhow, I had no choice but to stand there with a heavy heart and watch without enthusiasm as tita Mercy demonstrated how to cook chicken adobo (the chicken is marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and peppercorns, which is sautà ©ed in garlic and onions afterwards and simmered in the marinade); beef caldereta (chunks of beef short ribs are browned and sautà ©ed in olive oil with plenty of garlic, onions, and tomatoes; and slowly cooked until tender. Fried potato wedges, flower-shaped carrots, green peas, red bell pepper strips, and finely sliced birdââ¬â¢s eye chillis are added, and it is served with grated cheese on top); and other dishes whenever I did not have school. So every weekend I would have a cooking session with her, nonetheless, I never took it by heart. I was a teenager when my mother, siblings and I migrated to Canada to join our father. Life was tough because we had to do everything since we did not have a helper and plus the fact that it was costly or expensive to employ one. One day, our father came home from work, exhausted and hungry, only to discover that there was nothing to eat. My younger siblings and I only knew how to boil or fry an egg. Our father or older brother were the ones who would usually do the cooking because our mother is not really a good cook (shhhâ⬠¦ my mom knows how to cook but not as appetizing as our dadââ¬â¢s cooking). I would never forget how my father was boiling mad that day. He looked like a red Incredible Hulk! I was really scared and how I wished that I had paid attention to tita Mercy when she was showing me the basics of cooking and never took it for granted. The incident with my father played a major part for my eagerness to learn how to cook. My older brother, kuya Neil (kuya means olde r brother and a sign of respect as well), is a genius when it comes to cooking. He loves to experiment different menus and it always turns out delish. He will taste a certain dish and he will know exactly how to prepare and cook it. He really works fast in the kitchen and can cook three to four dishes at the same time. Oh how I admire that special talent of his and wish that I was gifted too. Anyway, Kuya Neil had patiently taught me everything I need to learn and this time I listened intently until I was confident enough to cook without his supervision. One evening, we invited our church pastor and his wife, who are our family friends since we were still in the Philippines, for dinner. My kuya Neil and I prepared the meal that night and I recalled vividly that I cooked spaghetti for the first time. I had watched kuya Neil numerous times how he cooked his signature sauce but I decided to do it my way. Besides, I was full of confidence and thought conceitedly, ââ¬Å"This is just a piece of cake.â⬠At dinner time, as we were eating, I noticed that it was only tito Neo (tito, which is uncle when translated in English) who was enjoying the spaghetti while the rest had this funny look on their faces. Kuya Sherwin, a good friend of ours and our tenant during that time, could not contain himself and blurted out jokingly, ââ¬Å"Beks (my nickname), next time just leave the spaghetti to Neil and just stick with your pancit (made of sautà ©ed rice noodles with chicken and assortment of vegetables), which is your expertise.â⬠Everyb ody at the table burst into laughter except for tito Neo who sincerely proclaimed, ââ¬Å"It is delicious!â⬠I was confused. Kuya Sherwin asked tito Neo humorously, ââ¬Å"Tito, what do you mean it is delicious. Have you eaten spaghetti before? Do you know how it should taste like?â⬠Tito Neo replied honestly, ââ¬Å"No, this is the first time I have it.â⬠Kuya Sherwin commented amusingly, ââ¬Å"No wonder you said it was delicious,â⬠and everybody was still laughing like a hyena. I got curious so I decided to try my spaghetti. Oh boy! It tasted horrible! It was not even close to kuya Neilââ¬â¢s spaghetti, which is a little bit sweet and cheesy- the Filipino style. I was really embarrassed and felt like yelling, ââ¬Å"Please, earth open up and swallow me alive now!â⬠Nevertheless, I took that experience as a challenge to motivate me to do better instead of being discouraged. At least, as a consolation, there was one person who appreciated my spaghetti- t ito NEO! When I got married and had my own family, my passion for cooking has intensified. I would find myself checking cookbooks or browsing the internet for recipes. Sometimes I would follow the exact measurement of the ingredients and the step-by-step instructions. When it did not come to my expectation, I would modify the ingredients until it was savory and suited my familyââ¬â¢s taste buds. My family is the light of my life, and serving them gives me simple pleasure and joy. They are my number one critics and supporters. Occasionally, I would hear my sonââ¬â¢s genuine opinion like, ââ¬Å"Mom, donââ¬â¢t think that I am being mean or rudeâ⬠¦ your soup tastes bland, but it is still good though.â⬠Or he would always say lovingly while hugging me tightly, ââ¬Å"Thank you so much, mom, for cooking.â⬠In addition, hearing them complimenting me how delicious their ââ¬Å"favorite spaghettiâ⬠is (Yes! You read it correctly, both my son and his father LOVE my spaghett i), and my sonââ¬â¢s cheerful remark, ââ¬Å"Mom, your spaghetti is the BEST,â⬠is such a rewarding and it brings happiness to my soul. This is also one of the reasons why I take pleasure in cooking because of the affection and appreciation I get from them. At the same time, I am glad knowing that my family will not ââ¬Å"STARVE TO DEATHâ⬠(*wink). I have learned that the key ingredient for cooking is LOVE, to make every dish a delight and heavenly. You need to have a joyful heart and cheerful spirit in order to produce a succulent meal. Do not cook just for the sake of cooking instead do it wholeheartedly because you love and enjoy what you are doing. My father used to say when we were young, ââ¬Å"When you are given a certain task or duty, make sure to give your best and do it flawlessly.â⬠I also apply that every time I prepare the food. I make sure that it does not only look appealing but it tastes yummy too. I may not be a world class chef or the master chef, Gordon Ramsay, yet, looking at how my sonââ¬â¢s eyes lit with the sweetest smile on his face whenever I cook his favorite food is already enough to make me feel that I am the GREATEST cook!

Long and Short Vowel Sounds
Long and Short Vowel Sounds Vowels and consonants are two types of letters in the English alphabet. A vowel sound is created when air flows smoothly, without interruption, through the throat and mouth. Different vowelà sounds are produced as a speaker changes the shape and placement of articulators (parts of the throat and mouth). In contrast, consonant sounds happen when the flow of air is obstructed or interrupted. If this sounds confusing, try making the ââ¬Å"pâ⬠sound and the ââ¬Å"kâ⬠sound. You will notice that in creating the sound you have manipulated your mouth and tongue to briefly interrupt airflow from your throat. Consonant sounds have a distinct beginning and end, while vowel sounds flow. The pronunciation of each vowel is determined by the position of the vowel in a syllable, and by the letters that follow it. Vowel sounds can be short, long, or silent. Short Vowels If a word contains only one vowel, and that vowel appears in the middle of the word, the vowel is usually pronounced as a short vowel. This is especially true if the word is very short. Examples of short vowels in one-syllable words include the following: AtBatMatBetWetLedRedHitFixRobLotCupBut This rule can also apply to one-syllable words that are a bit longer: RantChantSleptFledChipStripFlopChug When a short word with one vowel ends in s, l, or f, the end consonant is doubled, as in: BillSellMissPassJiffCuff If there are two vowels in a word, but the first vowel is followed by a double consonant, the vowels sound is short, such as: MatterCannonRibbonWobbleBunny If there are two vowels in a word and the vowels are separated by two or more letters, the first vowels is usually short, for example: LanternBasketTicketBucket Long Vowels The long vowel sound is the same as the name of the vowel itself. Follow these rules: Long A sound is AY as in cake.Long E sound is EE an in sheet.Long I sound is AHY as in like.Long O sound is OH as in bone.Long U sound is YOO as in human or OO as in crude. Long vowel sounds are often created when two vowels appear side by side in a syllable. When vowels work as a team to make a long vowel sound, the second vowel is silent. Examples are: RainSeizeBoatToadHeap A double ââ¬Å"eâ⬠also makes the long vowel sound: KeepFeelMeek The vowel ââ¬Å"iâ⬠often makes a long sound in a one-syllable word if the vowel is followed by two consonants: BlightHighMindWildPint This rule does not apply when the ââ¬Å"iâ⬠is followed by the consonants th, ch, or sh, as in: FishWishRichWith A long vowel sound is created when a vowel is followed by a consonant and a silent ââ¬Å"eâ⬠in a syllable, as in: StripeStakeConcedeBiteSizeRodeCute The long ââ¬Å"uâ⬠sound can sound like yoo or oo, such as: CuteFluteLutePruneFumePerfume Most often, the letter ââ¬Å"oâ⬠will be pronounced as a long vowel sound when it appears in a one-syllable word and is followed by two consonants, as in these examples: MostPostRollFoldSold A few exceptions occur when the ââ¬Å"oâ⬠appears in a single syllable word that ends in th or sh: PoshGoshMoth Weird Vowel Sounds Sometimes, combinations of vowels and consonants (like Y and W) create unique sounds. The letters oi can make an OY sound when they appear in the middle of a syllable: BoilCoinOink The same sound is made with the letters ââ¬Å"oyâ⬠when they appear at the end of a syllable: AhoyBoyAnnoySoy Similarly, the letters ââ¬Å"ouâ⬠make a distinct sound when they appear in the middle of a syllable: CouchRoutPoutAboutAloud The same sound can be made by the letters ow when they appear at the end of a syllable: AllowPlowEndow The long ââ¬Å"oâ⬠sound is also created by the letters ââ¬Å"owâ⬠when they appear at the end of a syllable: RowBlowSlowBelow The letters ay make the long ââ¬Å"aâ⬠sound: StayPlayQuay The letter Y can make a long ââ¬Å"iâ⬠sound if it appears at the end of a one-syllable word: ShyPlyTryFly The letters ie can make a long ââ¬Å"eâ⬠sound (except after c): BeliefThiefFiend The letters ei can make the long ââ¬Å"eâ⬠sound when they follow a ââ¬Å"câ⬠: ReceiveDeceiveReceipt The letter ââ¬Å"yâ⬠can make a long e sound if it appears at the end of a word and it follows one or more consonants: BonyHolyRosySassyFieryToastyMostly

Self Discovery Journey in Literature Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Self Discovery Journey in Literature - Essay Example The discourse of self initiation should be looked at through the eye glass of the self; the characters created by the two authors display this side of every human being and, the almost desperate search that they start is common for all humans, thus I believe that the personal endeavor and voracious desire for knowledge do not shadow, but rather illuminate my very own understanding of the two books. The confession like statement of this paper that unravels the past fears and discoveries of my self concludes that life and the journey dedicated to spiritual evolution is present in every individual and that such novels as "The Alchemist" and "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" are not only very appealing to the readers, but also manage to bring back into focus the stages of becoming by unweaving and weaving back one's path. The analysis of the given literary corpus proved to reach a difficult point when I compared the styles of the two novels and the two different tones that speak about the becoming of the individual. Coelho's language is easier to apprehend and thus it proved to carry a more explicit message that immediately assures the revelations of the readers in front of a promised destiny. This author's description of the theme 'life as a journey' brings a world of magic and yet simple happiness that seems to be there at the end of the path. Unlike Coelho, Richard Bach imposes upon his readers a metaphor that shadows the plot and the message of the novel. As similar as they may seems, the language of the two novels has two tones: a calm and eventful one in "The Alchemist" and an extortionately dry one in "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". It is difficult and it takes an in-depth analysis in order to be able to set and discuss the intimate coordinates of the two souls that are incorporated in this unf olding. The main idea that this paper managed to discuss and that represents its strong point is the fact that the comparison between the two novels conveys a good understanding of the main characters: the shepherd and the seagull and their dynamics. Leaving aside the plot and focusing on the changes they go through, this paper brings in front of the readers a good understanding of the restless seagull and of the thriving young boy. The paper discussed only a part of the aspects present in the two novels and it did not cover the metaphysical and deeply symbolical dimension of the language. As simple as it may seem, the language used by both Coelho and Bach hides a symbolism that should be discussed in connection with the author's philosophy and not with my own personal believes; the literary analysis of the abstract ideas that come along with the story line is sure to bring a better understanding of the novels. However, this paper does trigger important questions which should be part of a future and detailed study of the transcendental dimensions of the self discovery journey as it appears in "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho and Richard Bach's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". What's not a part of your paper that you think might help a reader understand or appreciate
